Writing & Chapbook Launch
Friday, May 22, 12:30 pm – 2:30 pm · Carnegie Theatre
Join The Gallery Gachet Writers Group for a writing workshop and launch of their chapbook, Write Like a Deer, a collection of experimental fiction curated by 2026 Gallery Gachet Writer-in-Residence Suparna Choudhury. Facilitated by Gachet Writers Group founder Bruce Ray, the workshop will feature a series of stream-of-consciousness writing exercises. Whether you write frequently or are just starting out, participants will have the opportunity to share their work if desired. (Pens and notepads are provided). Conceived by interdisciplinary researcher and writer Suparna Choudhury as a “participatory project”, writing for Write Like a Deer comes from a February workshop where Suparna led Gachet Writers Group members through a series of writing exercises, challenging them to write about uncertainty. The event will conclude with Gachet Writers Group members reading from their contributions to the chapbook.

GACHET WRITERS
Writing Group Founded in April 2024 by longtime Gallery Gachet member Bruce Ray, the Gachet Writers Group focuses on the art of writing. We are a democratically run group that shares stories, provides feedback, and engages in writing exercises, including automatic writing. Members share their views on literature and art, celebrating diverse perspectives and styles. We aim to promote self-direction and open dialogue about mental illness and the problem of stigma in a safe, inclusive environment. The group meets every Friday morning from 10:30 am–12:30 pm at The Recovery Café, located at 620 Clark Drive. All are welcome to join.
